Beyonce wins top Grammys prize for first time with 'Cowboy Carter'
Beyoncé clinched the highest accolade at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, winning Album of the Year for the first time in her career with her country album "Cowboy Carter." The ceremony paid homage to the wildfire-stricken Los Angeles. The acclaimed artist triumphed over competitors such as Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish to secure the award, which had previously escaped her grasp despite her having the most lifetime Grammys of any artist.
"I just feel very full and very honored. It's been many, many years," Beyonce said on stage, standing next to her daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
Beyoncé's victory occurred during her fifth nomination in the album category. She secured a total of three awards on Sunday, increasing her career total to 35. Rapper Kendrick Lamar won both record and song of the year for "Not Like Us," a diss track aimed at Canadian rapper and singer Drake. Lamar, who triumphed in all five categories in which he was nominated, dedicated his accolades to Los Angeles, the site of the ceremony.
